Columbus Flooring and Questions of Sustainability

For the most part, customers who visit Fedco Floor Services do so with the standard set of demands and expectations. They’re simply interested in finding the flooring for their Columbus-area home which suits their personal design aesthetic and will withstand the traffic and usage patterns of rooms in which they plan to install it.

But every now and then, Fedco does host a customer with more high-minded ideas about home renovation and general purchasing decisions. There are times when we have to field questions about the production process and supply chain for specific flooring products, so the customer can rule out whatever they consider to be unsustainable, or ethically questionable, or saddled by too large a carbon footprint.

We like to think that the entire showroom staff at Fedco Floor Services is familiar enough with their catalog to competently field all these questions. We should be able to identify which products come from domestic manufacturers and which are imported from near or from far. Sales associates should also be capable of detailing the basic production process for each flooring type or refer you to someone who knows that information in more detail.

Beyond that, we like to think that Fedco Floor Services is well in tune with emerging trends in the construction, design, and home renovation industries, as well as overall market trends in the Columbus area and in the United States as a whole. We’re always on the lookout for new products and new versions of existing products, especially those that exhibit recent growth in consumer demand.

We know that questions of sustainability are at least in the back of the minds of growing numbers of local homeowners. Our partners and friends in the local home improvement sector have reported those concerns as driving more and more efforts to weatherize homes and cut down on energy consumption. Of course, cutting down on consumption also cuts down on costs, and many consumers are delighted to see how doing right by the planet often goes hand-in-hand with doing right by their bank account.

That can be true of flooring, as well. Certain affordable Columbus flooring options are also remarkably eco-friendly. Bamboo, for instance, has many of the qualities of more traditional hardwood flooring but usually boasts a much lower price point. That has to do with the fact that bamboo is one of the fastest-growing crops in the world, and can be cultivated in practically any climate, including the American Midwest.

Trade publications indicate that bamboo flooring is also becoming increasingly popular, with sustainability and a low carbon footprint being major selling points. We expect this trend to continue long into the future, and we will keep watch for signs of that demand in the local market, so as to quickly fill it. And knowing that many potential customers spare a thought for the ethical implications of their purchases, we will always make a good faith effort to source our products from manufacturers that respect and share modern consumers’ values.
