Prepare for Reopening, or Wait it out, with Fedco Floor Services

Fedco Floor Services is looking forward to the resumption of ordinary sales and installation. But we’re not rushing it. As we noted in a previous post, aspects of our services are essential, so we’ve been here for you throughout the pandemic. And of course we’ll be here after lockdowns are over, too. In the meantime, we’re doing whatever we can to help clients ride out the crisis.

Much of the country is reopening, and we imagine that some of our clients are eager to get started on home renovation projects that were put on hold by the pandemic. Fedco Floor Services is here for you. We’ll still be maintaining distancing and sanitation policies, but if you’re comfortable having us in your home, we’ll be happy to install the new flooring that helps you to put this strange time behind you.

On the other hand, many people in the Columbus area can be expected to remain at home for some time to come. Local governments and institutions are taking the reopening process slowly, and vulnerable citizens probably shouldn’t try to sprint ahead. For those who feel it’s best to shelter in place until they get the all-clear, we’re still prepared to provide the cleaning and maintenance services that help keep your home safe and comfortable while you’re spending extra time there.

If you don’t know how you’re going to approach a return to normal life, that’s okay too. Despite all the debates between cautious policymakers and advocates for immediate reopening, there are probably a lot more people who still aren’t sure what to do. We sympathize with clients who fall into that category. We also know that the uncertainty complicates your relationship with Fedco Floor Services.

Should you move ahead with the re-flooring projects that you planned to complete in time for summer gatherings? Should you reevaluate your purchase options with an emphasis on cleaning and germ-resistance? Should you schedule cleaning of your existing floors, on the assumption that you’ll still be walking on them at all hours of the day, for weeks to come?

We can’t answer any of those questions for you. But Fedco Floor Services will work with you based on whatever you decide is best for your home. If you’re planning to be there for the long haul, it’s time to think about the floors that will best accommodate at-home summer activities. But if you’re itching to get away, it’s still important to make sure that the home you return to is somewhere close to your ideal.

Post-Pandemic Plans with Fedco Floor Services

Fedco Floor Services is still here for you if you have essential maintenance and cleaning needs.

It’s still difficult to say when the coronavirus outbreak is going to subside enough for life to start returning to normal. But Fedco Floor Services is at least partly categorized as an essential business, so there are still functions we can perform while people are sheltering at home.

That’s as it should be, since public health concerns underscore the importance of professional cleaning. And given that people are sheltering inside their homes, it’s important that the floors of those homes be safe and in good repair. So if any of your surfaces are rotted, warped, or hazardous in any way, you shouldn’t hesitate to call us to fix them.

Rest assured that Fedco Floor Services has adopted new procedures to minimize contact, maintain social distancing, and maximize the safety of our workers and our customers. And of course, non-essential work is put on hold.

But we’re eagerly planning for the day when we resume normal operations. And whenever that day comes, Fedco Floor Services will be prepared to start working through our contracts in the most efficient and equitable way possible. Naturally, we’ll be starting with contracts that were put on hold by the pandemic, but if you’re a potential new client, we encourage you to call and discuss your plans with us. We’ll be happy to pencil you in for an appointment as soon as we can meet safely.

We encourage you to look past the tragedy, uncertainty, and discomfort of this moment. We’re certainly trying our best to do so. For one thing, we at Fedco Floor Services are actually hopeful that stay-at-home orders will help to improve people’s relationships with their dwellings.

In fact, that’s part of the reason why Fedco Floor Services is filling this time by taking calls with existing clients and potential future clients about their flooring needs.

You’ve probably been scrutinizing the features of your home for the past few weeks. And if you haven’t been, you’ll probably start in the weeks ahead. Something might start to rub you the wrong way, or you might start to envision changes that would make your home into a place that’s worth being quarantined in.

Whatever the case may be, we’re sure that Fedco Floor Services can help you repair that worn-down surfaces you’ve been overlooking, or install a type of flooring that doesn’t irritate your eyes or your feet after too much exposure.

We truly look forward to the day when we can start on projects that will help the entire Columbus area to put this challenging time behind us. We hope you’re looking forward to it as well.

Fedco Floor Services Urges You to Keep Your Floors Germ-Free

At Fedco Floor Services, we’re committed to maximizing the comfort and enjoyment of your home. We’re also committed to your health and safety. The current coronavirus pandemic is a sober reminder of that latter role.

Non-essential commerce is at a standstill around Ohio, following Governor Mike DeWine’s stay-at-home order. We’re confident that the economic impact of the crisis will be temporary. But we’re hopeful that some of the relevant lessons will be permanent. Among these are lessons about the importance of cleanliness.

Across Ohio and the United States, countless people have adopted a 20-second hand-washing rule and have learned just how far short of that benchmark they were falling in the past. Ideally, this habit is carrying over into household cleaning, including the cleaning of floors.

Ordinarily, that is something that Fedco Floor Services would be able to help you with. But for the time being, you’ll have to rely on household cleaners to minimize the risk from microbes that can make you sick.

Fedco Floor Services can still help by making sure that you are armed with relevant information on the topic. And when Ohioans return to business as usual, you’ll once again be able to rely on us for deep cleaning and long-term maintenance of all your flooring surfaces.

This post isn’t intended to cause unnecessary alarm at what is already a stressful time. Rest assured, you don’t have much risk of catching Covid-19 from contaminated surfaces in your home unless a member of your family is sick. And even then, infected droplets on your floors are extremely unlikely to find their way to your mouth or nose, as long as you take very basic precautions.

Still, it’s worth keeping in mind that research shows the coronavirus can survive for anywhere between two hours and nine days on various surfaces. And since it’s more durable than flu, you shouldn’t take it for granted that you’ll always be protected by the cleaning practices that have kept you healthy in the past.

Non-porous surfaces like tile floors are the least accommodating to coronavirus, and they can be easily cleaned. But you may be surprised to know that studies of the similar virus that causes SARS show it can live on wood for four of five days. If you have hardwood floors, now is as good a time as any to make sure you’re using the best cleaning practices.

As long as you can’t schedule a deep cleaning, you can at least contact Fedco Floor Services for advice on the best products that are currently available to consumers. There are good options for all types of flooring, and any of them could play an important role in minimizing your exposure to all germs – not just coronavirus. While carpet, for example, is fairly inhospitable to viruses, it can hold onto bacteria for months under certain conditions.

We mention this because we at Fedco Floor Services want to help you do more than just keep yourself healthy during the ongoing crisis. We also want every surface in your home to be clean enough that you can enjoy it to the fullest while always remaining healthy and feeling secure.

Columbus Flooring in a Seller’s Market

Columbus flooring should make you feel at home, especially since a home in the area is hard to find.

Columbus was recently ranked as the 7th most difficult US city in which to find a home. So if you’re lucky enough to already have one, your best option might be to stick with it over the long term. In that case, you should also make sure it’s upgraded with all the features you like best, including your ideal choice of Columbus flooring.

If you’re currently looking for a home in the area, chances are that you’ll need to make some compromises. Carpets and hardwoods are among the first things that draws most people’s eyes when home shopping. But if you can’t find the Columbus flooring that you like on a layout you’re willing to buy, you can always resolve to install it later. Fedco Floor Services can help you with that.

Chances are that central Ohio will remain a seller’s market for years to come. On one hand, that limits some people’s options. But on the other hand, it can present opportunities to cash in. In the short term, it’s probably more cost-effective to get new Columbus flooring and various other upgrades rather than changing homes. In the long-term, those upgrades will add further value to a home that can probably already fetch a very good price.

If you’re really interested in maximizing your return on investment, Fedco Floor Services can help you to understand which types of Columbus flooring are most in demand right now. By looking at what’s popular in the most affluent areas of the city, you can get a sense of how to move your house to the top of one of the most competitive markets in the country.

But don’t forget that if you’re going to be living here for a long time, what’s most important is for your Columbus flooring to match your own personality.

Considering Wintertime Flooring Installation?

Winter is not exactly a popular time for new flooring installation projects in a Columbus home. But sometimes there are compelling reasons to make changes in the off-season.

So far this year, winter has been very inconsistent across much of the Midwest. On one hand, the warm periods we’ve been experiencing represent a potential opportunity for a quick flooring installation that doesn’t disrupt your home too much at a time when shelter is needed most. And on the other hand, the fluctuations can help you to better gauge what is needed to make your shelter more complete.

Outside, you can easily feel the general up-and-down of the weather. Inside, you might be able to feel the same thing on your feet, depending on the quality of your insulation and the decisions you made at the time of your last flooring installation. If your floors feel noticeably colder on some days than others, it’s possibly a sign that something needs to change.

When winter is consistently severe, it’s easy to adapt to the changes and assume that whatever you’re feeling inside your home is normal. But in years like this one, it’s a lot harder to ignore how much more wintertime comfort you can obtain with a new flooring installation.

Even if you don’t want to change your actual choice of flooring, Fedco Floor Services can help to better insulate your current flooring installation. There are a few different ways of accomplishing this, and not all of them require completely tearing up your floorboards and starting over.

If you do go that route, though, it’s worth considering other Columbus flooring alternatives that would make your house feel more like a home in wintertime. Of course, this is the sort of thing you should consider at the time of your first flooring installation, but not everybody does. Sometimes, it takes years of walking around on a cold hardwood before you realize just home much additional warmth you can get from plush carpeting or heat-absorbing vinyl or laminate.

There are a lot of things that might motivate a new Columbus flooring installation. Fickle winter weather is an unusual one. But if that’s what motivates you, then Fedco Floor Services will be happy to help you prepare for many winters to come.

Resolve to Take Advantage of Fedco’s Floor Cleaning Services

It’s almost the end of the year, and we at Fedco Floor Services are working on our New Year’s resolutions. We hope that 2020 will be the start of a whole new decade of providing top-quality flooring to Columbus-area homes and businesses. And we also hope to help more of that flooring survive and thrive throughout the years to come.

Of course, this depends upon our clients reaching out to us and taking advantage of the professional cleaning services we offer alongside installation. And unfortunately, far too many of those clients put all their focus on replacing their Columbus flooring and forget about the long-term importance of cleaning and maintenance. Even in the best case scenario, this results in people living with carpets, tiles, and hardwoods that no longer come anywhere close to evoking the feeling they did when they were installed. In other cases, it means actually having to replace that flooring much sooner than necessary.

At this time of year, we urge all our clients – and all Columbus area property owners – to think back on the wear and tear their carpets have suffered over the past 12 monhs. Were there minor instances of water damage during a wet Ohio spring which you swept under the rug, so to speak? How much debris was tracked into the building in autumn? How much salt in winter? Can you even remember how your carpet looked last January? How closely does its color match what you see today? Has it picked up an odor from pets or spills?

These are all questions that you should ask every year, at a minimum. And for many people, there’s no better or more obvious time to do so than during the last days of the annual calendar. If you let staining and damage go unnoticed for too many months, you’re likely to end up simply adapting to conditions that ought to be beneath your standards as a property owner. But if you resolve to a professional cleaning from Fedco Floor Services, at least your flooring can start out the New Year with the kind of clean slate that so many people dream of.

Online Inspiration for Your Columbus Flooring Project

Rental websites can be a useful resource when contemplating a Columbus flooring project. Sure, it can be fun to dream up options on your own. But by reviewing what’s currently on the market, you can give your potential choices a helpful context.

There are different ways to approach this. You can look at listings randomly and get a general overview of Columbus flooring. Or you can filter by neighborhood and see whether there are any trends that set certain areas apart from others. And of course you can also look at different price ranges and see which types of Columbus flooring seem to add value to an apartment.

What you do with this data is still up to you. If your own Columbus flooring project is in one of the neighborhoods you looked at, you’ll have to ask yourself how your property should fit in. Maybe you want to follow the trend and attract the same types of residents. But there’s also something to be said for setting your property apart, so occupants can feel like they have something their neighbors don’t.

A comparison of rental rates and Columbus flooring trends can tell you something about what you can afford to charge. But it can also convey ideas about how to elevate the look of a rental property and make it look like it’s worth more than it is.

Regardless of what you personally take away from it, we hope that a review of rental sites is a source of inspiration for your Columbus flooring project. But if sifting through the listings seems too complicated or time-consuming, we at Fedco Floor Services can also give you an idea about what’s trending, what’s popular, and what’s fetching a good price today.

Fedco Floor Services Recommends: Hardwood Compromises

Unsurprisingly, Fedco Floor Services gets a lot of requests for hardwood flooring installations. We also have a lot of customers who express an interest in hardwood before choosing a synthetic alternative for their Columbus home’s flooring.

Hardwood has a unique charm that is difficult to replicate. Certain laminates and vinyl floors come close, though. And for some customers at Fedco Floor Services, they end up being slightly preferable to hardwood because they are more resistant to scratching and scuffing.

Still, we recognize that it’s a trade-off. Sometimes, the practical choice just isn’t what you want. In those cases, we like to remind customers that following your heart doesn’t need to be impractical. There are ways to outfit a Columbus home with hardwood flooring while still staving off visible damage.

The solution may be as simple as choosing the right grain and finish. Hardwood flooring is by no means one-size-fits-all. And some varieties have a lot more texture than others. These tend to hide wear-and-tear much better.

Even if heavily-textured wood isn’t your first choice, Fedco Floor Services can help you to mix-and-match when designing your layout. Some customers place a more textured hardwood in the most heavily trafficked or damage-prone of a home, while leaving a more pristine finish in other areas. The two different looks can actually create a beautiful contrast for each other.

Along similar lines, you can even mix-and-match entirely different types of flooring on offer at Fedco Floor Services.

We’ve previously discussed some of the ways in which the same space can be outfitted with different flooring, depending on the form and function of each room. If the look of each room calls for hardwood, but you’re worried about it getting beaten up in some areas, there’s no reason why you can’t install hardwood in most areas while also cheating a little and interweaving laminates here and there.

Don’t worry if that’s the approach you take. At Fedco Floor Services, we’ll share all of our secrets regarding Columbus flooring solutions. But we won’t tell anyone yours.

Diverse Flooring in Columbus Public Venues

Most people probably don’t think very much about the flooring in Columbus entertainment venues or commercial spaces. Of course, that’s part of our job at Fedco Floor Services. So when new construction gets under way in the local area, we often think about the kinds of flooring that might be best suited for it.

This can be a fun exercise even if your professional life doesn’t involve installing carpet and laminates. It can give anyone an opportunity to think about how they might use similar spaces. How does the flooring in Columbus restaurants compare to that of retail spaces? What makes a certain kind of flooring right for a gallery or a performance venue? And how do those spaces compare to your experience with the flooring in Columbus properties you rent or own?

We recently found ourselves thinking about these sorts of questions when design plans were released for the Columbus Crew Soccer Club’s new downtown stadium. The summary of those plans didn’t get into details about flooring. But the stadium’s various features suggest that there could be several different types featured throughout.

The West concourse will lead to standard seating, but also to player boxes, club seats, and a lounge. It’s difficult to imagine most stadium spaces with any sort of delicate flooring, but it’s also kind of difficult to imagine a lounge without carpet. And the diverse potential for the stadium is made more obvious by the fact that it is not exclusively going to be used as a sports venue.

At the entrance plaza, a 5,000 square foot Brew Hall is expected to be used for various community events. This goes to show that sometimes, when selecting the flooring in Columbus venues, it’s necessary to think of all the different ways in which the space might be used. And really, it’s the same with residential homes. Owners should try to imagine a building’s full potential in order to find just the right compromise between durability, versatility, appearance, and cost.

Columbus Home Flooring that’s Safe for Pets

Is your Columbus home flooring pet-friendly? Have you ever thought of adopting a local shelter animal, only to hesitate over concerns about damage and cleanliness? Fedco Floor Services can help you to install new flooring that won’t be affected by even the most active dogs or cats. Or, if you’re not ready to change your Columbus home flooring to accommodate an animal, Fedco can help you design a plan for cleaning and maintaining what you already have installed.

There may be no better time to make this kind of change, especially if you want to do some good for the local community. It was recently reporting that Columbus Human would be temporarily halting public surrenders, following the sad news of more than 250 mistreated animals being recovered from a pet shop and its owner’s home. Because of limited shelter space and delayed surrenders, there’s sure to be a surge in animals needing adoption in the near future.

If you’re in a position to help alleviate that need, don’t let questions about your Columbus home flooring hold you back. If you’ve already been thinking of upgrading, let this be your last bit of motivation, and consider asking Fedco Floor Services to install vinyl flooring, which is waterproof and easy to clean, but also soft and comfortable for new, four-legged members of your family.

Other good alternatives include linoleum, bamboo, and laminate, all of which have unique pros and cons when it comes to making new pets feel at home without inviting them to do much damage. But this isn’t to suggest that you have to change your existing Columbus home flooring. If you love your carpet and you want to keep it, that’s fine. All it takes to make sensitive materials compatible with pets is a commitment to obedience training and readiness to call Fedco Floor Services for deep cleaning whenever the wear-and-tear gets to be too much.
